The First Step towards Guruji’s Dream
The very first patient admitted to the Wellness Centre was a patient of Multiple Sclerosis who had come over from Germany. She had been suffering for more than 25 years and had come to India to visit Aurobindo Ashram at Pondicherry. By Divine Providence, she came to know about Guruji and decided to come over to Suryamal for her Treatments by LMNT.
This was way back in February 2010, when we had only the basic amenities. Guruji was just toying with the idea of starting a residential Wellness Centre, preparations for the same were in the infant stage. Two rooms, named as ‘Hari Krupa’, had just been completed, but certainly were not yet geared to cater to patients.
At Mumbai airport, she had to be brought out in a wheel chair from the plane to the arrival lounge. She braved the four hour car ride from Mumbai to Suryamal, part of which is in hilly terrain amid winding roads.
When she got out of the car on the first day, she had great difficulty in walking a few steps, even with the help of a stick. Within, just 3 days of her treatments, a miraculous change occurred in her condition. Her gait became firmer and she did not lean heavily on her walking stick as she was doing earlier. Originally, her plan was to stay for a couple of weeks only and she had already booked her return flight to Germany, but, by the end of the next week, she felt such a tremendous improvement, that she decided to extend her stay by another month and accordingly she changed the departure date of her ticket.
By the time she finally left the ashram, she was able to walk totally without support and did not require the use of the wheel chair at the airport.
The centre has come a long way since those days. Now the facilities are much improved. We now have in-house Laundry and Housekeeping services. Earlier there was only one kitchen for students, staff, patients and visitors. Now, we have a separate kitchen with a dedicated cook for catering to the needs of the patients. The food is simple but wholesome.
